We provide active and practical therapies
At AM Psychology & Counselling Services we do more than just listen to your story. Together with your therapist you will come to an understanding of your difficulties, what has caused them, and what is maintaining them. We will work on practical strategies and skills so you can overcome what is troubling you, prevent any recurrence and enhance your life. We will often recommend exercises or provide reading material for you between sessions that will maximise your progress.
We Offer Accessible Session Times and Prices
Sessions for counselling services may be available before work, in the evening or in your lunch break.
Sessions for counselling services are for 50 minutes. Counselling session rates are designed to maximise the accessibility to affordable professional mental health care and start at $150 per counselling session for private counselling recipients. Other rates apply for various training packages, hypnosis packages (starting from $240 per session) and corporate work.
Payment can be by cash, eftpos or by credit/debit cards. You can also claim Medicare and private health insurance rebates for counselling if available at the time you pay the counselling session fee through the EasyClaim and HICAPS systems we have at the counselling practice.
Please Let Us Know as Soon as Possible if You Can’t Make a Counselling Session
A cancellation fee will apply when less than 48 hours notice is given
We Have Experienced Work Cover Psychologists
You may be eligible to have your sessions paid for by WorkCover if you have suffered a psychological or stress injury in the workplace.
You will require a referral from a GP or Psychiatrist. You must bring a signed WorkCover medical certificate to your appointment. The treatment plan will need to stipulate that psychological services are required.
An injured worker is entitled to choose their psychologist, as long as that psychologist has been approved by WorkCover.
Medicare Rebates May be Available
We have registered counselling providers with Medicare. To be able to claim the Medicare rebate for counselling services, you will need to see your GP to discuss your eligibility for counselling services under Medicare. If suitable, your GP will formulate a General Practitioner Mental Health Care Plan (MHCP). When the GP registers you with Medicare for the MHCP counselling services, you may request the psychologist of your choice. Alternatively, the GP can refer you to a psychologist he or she recommends.
You may be entitled to a rebate for up to 10 counselling sessions in a calendar year. This requires 6 initial counselling sessions, followed by a review with your GP regarding your progress. The doctor will then decide if you need for an additional 4 counselling sessions.
The current rebate for a 50+ minute counselling session with a psychologist is $84.80
Private Health Funds May also Provide Rebates
Many private health funds provide a rebate for counselling sessions with a psychologist. Please contact your fund to enquire about the whether you are covered for counselling services with an AHPRA registered psychologist.
